The iPhone 3G: US most popular Mobile phone
Now there is another jewel in the iPhone 3G’s crown. A report from NPD Group shows that the iPhone 3G has surpassed the Motorola RAZR in the Q3, as it was the leading handset purchased by US adult consumers.
In US, the RAZR has been ruling as the top-selling handset for the last 12 Qs. The report is based on more than 150,000 online consumer surveys conducted each month to represent all 18 years and older US consumers.
“This replacement of the RAZR by the iPhone shows a cut-off point shift in handset design from fashion to fashionable functionality. During third quarter, four out of the five best-selling handsets had advanced Internet features and were optimized for messaging,” said Ross Rubin, who is NPD’s director of industry analysis.
The iPhone 3G, all models of the RAZR V3, RIM’s BlackBerry all models, the LG Rumor and the LG enV2 were the top five handsets in the third Quarter in order.
It shows that the consumers are more inclined to fashionable functionality these days and they look for advanced Internet features in their handsets aside from camera, music players and other paraphernalia in their handsets.
Though camera, music players and other such features are liked by the consumers, they want a device with nice text messaging and email capabilities. In US, it is quiet obvious that consumers have begun to prefer fashionable functionality over fashion.
