This week we have seen that BT had announced its new fiber optics based broadband service which will be available to almost 10 million homes by 2012 and they are investing £1.5 billion to roil out this project and virgin media who were already running a fiber optics based broadband responded towards this new project by saying that why consumers would want to wait for this service rather they are just required to come to the virgin platform.

The new announced of BT’s broadband could be seen as a threat to virgin media which operates a broadband service that is not very much similar to the fiber optics based system. The virgin broadband 50mbps service is in its release and according to the company’s claim the £19.99 package represents ‘a saving of £7.47 per month on Virgin Media’s XXL highest speed service’. But the chief threat to virgin media is that the BT’s project is available in January to some places and it will reach its target of 10 million homes by 2012.
It is being expected that Virgin Media will soon launch a 50Mbps broadband service for the UK internet users.
Virgin Media will become the first Britain’s Internet service provider to introduce a broadband service that will be a lot faster than presently available broadband services to the UK internet users.
No information has been given that in what parts of the UK it will be available first and on what price.
At present, 20Mbps is the fastest home broadband speed that Virgin Media providing in UK.
With the launch of this service, Virgin Media will become the speediest internet service provider in the UK and Be Broadband is at number two which providing 24Mbps service in different parts of the country. Read the rest of this entry
