Samsung may acquire SanDisk
Samsung is apparently in talks with the market’s leading memory card maker SanDisk for a possible takeover.
An online Korean newspaper says that Samsung is considering about the buyout of memory card maker. However, it has neither been accepted nor been denied by both of these parties.
According to Samsung’s spokesman James Chung, “Though Samsung is thinking about various opportunities regarding SanDisk, nothing has been decided yet.”
On the other hand, SanDisk said in a statement that company has conversation with multiple parties periodically for different possible business opportunities.
“We are considering all these opportunities, but we have a policy of not to comment on market speculation and rumors.”
Samsung has been supplying NAND flash memory to SanDisk, which is used to store the info on the memory card.
At present, Samsung seems to invest heavily in flash memory business as it considers flash memory the obvious successor to HDDS which are used in hand held devices and computers.
