PlayNow Arena With independent App stores being launched by every mobile phone manufacturer, Sony Ericsson has planned to enter the competition, too. The mobile giant is launching an online store for mobile applications called PlayNow Arena. Announcement has been made by the company.

SE is going to team up with the independent free mobile application store GetJar. This website offers free downloads for handsets and mobile operating devices. Due to this partnership, SE will be enabled to provide 45000 applications from the very beginning for mobile phones. Premium apps for SE users will also be provided. Regarding 3rd party apps, the process of submission will be more streamlined in order to simplify it.

Right now, PlayNow is a hub for music, games, themes and movies, the latter been introduced lately for selective mobile phones (like Yari). This addition of applications in the Arena will take SE right in the queue of giants like Apple, Nokia and Blackberry. These companies have already made their reputation in the Apps stores area. Apple’s online app store is considered to be ob top of the list with a wide range of applications being offered. Let us see if Sony Ericsson proves to be potent enough to come up to that level. Developer submissions begin on 1st July.
