Only a few months ago Sony had announced the 80 GIG version of the Playstation 3. Now Sony has confirmed that it will be released a doubled capacity 160 GIG version in October, arriving across the Atlantic in Europe toward the end of this month.
The new version comes with a Dualshock 3 controller along with an adventure game Unchartered: Drake’s Adventure. While the European prices have not been announced, the price for PS3 in America is said to be $499. However, Sony plans to continue selling the 80 GIG versions in the UK at the 299 Pound price from which one can infer that the doubled capacity version could be priced around 350 Pounds.
The new console has doubled the space from the older version and most analysts are of the view that the extra space will be for movies. The bundled console is meant to allow consumers to be able to use PlayStation’s video delivery service which offers new TV shows and blockbuster rentals. These will be available for download.
The ability to download and watch movies is in line with Sony’s attempt to keep consumers happy with the gaming console. Nintendo’s Wii and Microsoft Xbox have posed tough competition for the makers of PlayStation. One of the drawbacks for consumers of PlayStation has been the price. However, with added functionality mentioned above, the addition of a Blu-ray player and a high-end PC graphics card it may triumph over the others.
