Google Getting Antitrust Complaints in Europe
Google has recently revealed in their blog post that their company is being investigated for possible anti competitive behavior in Europe following some complaints that were filled against Google from three of its competitors. The of the sites which filled against such complaints with the European commission are the Price comparison site called Foundem, a French legal search engine called ejustice.fr and a German search site called Ciao that’s is recently acquired by Microsoft as reported by Google. While talking about the complaints the statement came from Google that “While we will be providing feedback and additional information on these complaints, we are confident that our business operates in the interests of users and partners, as well as in line with European competition law”
The commission which is monitoring all this issue is the top antitrust regulator of European Union and often it conducts such kind of preliminary investigation where the complaints against the potentially anticompetitive behavior have been notified. Google didn’t directly blame Microsoft for these complaints but they said in a blog post that “Regarding Ciao, they were a long-time AdSense partner of Google’s, with whom we always had a good relationship,” it was further notified that “However, after Microsoft acquired Ciao in 2008 (renaming it Ciao from Bing) we started receiving complaints about our standard terms and conditions. They initially took their case to the German competition authority, but it now has been transferred to Brussels”. As these complaints can badly affect the reputation of Google that’s why Google has said that they’ll discuss the case with the other sites.
