According to OLED-display.net, a new type of OLED display with built-in touch sensitive technology has been developed by the German scientists.

The screen will be uncovered at 4th Global Plastic Electronics conference in Berlin during this month. Researchers from the high tech Fraunhofer IPMS Institute are the developer of this slim and eco-friendly OLED screen.

This is, indeed, big news for the industry as there is not any additional touch-sensitive layer that is found on iPhones or sat navs. In this new screen, the touch controls are built-in to the display itself.OLED are considered the best choice to replace LCD technology as they have faster response time and do not require a heavy, power-consuming backlight.

This new development seems promising to everything including cheap touch-sensitive mobile phones and ultra-lightweight laptops.

Jorg Amelug, who is head of organic materials and systems at the Fraunhofer IPMS, is quite excited at this new development: “The touch function produces a nice new feeling of light and it looks like a magic as you can turn on the light with simple hand movement.”
