“With better technology, more interactivity and social gaming, gaming would soon be dominating the entertainment landscape in the coming times we can observe that TV, recorded music and movies all are contracting and stagnating sectors of entertainment.” Griffith added.

Griffith also quoted statistics from US market that indicated movies tickets sale dropped by 6% during 2003-07.  There was a 6% decrease in the number of TV watched hours. Similarly, recorded music sales fell 12% and sales of DVDs was also quite flat. In the same period, video gaming industry saw 40% growth.

“It seems that video games would eclipse all other media in the coming decade,” Griffith said.

Guitar Hero success suggests that gaming has become quite influential on various other entertainment sectors.

Griffith also quoted data from Nielsen SoundScan which illustrated that there was a 15 to 843% increase in the download sales of music of those artists who featured it on Guitar Hero.

Guitar Hero was so much popular that many bands like Aerosmith and Metallica to bring only their own music with a new version of that game.
