The time for initial surprise has gone with the wind and now it’s time to inquire about the big things in Google’s new browser like: Is it really good or what thing makes it different to its rivals including Firefox 3.1 and IE8? Let’s compare it with these two big browsers known as IE8 beta 2 and recently released Firefox 3.1 that is a Minefield with the latest TraceMonkey JavaScript engine capability.
No doubt, all these three browsers are nice and do similar things in different ways, but still you can’t say them the same as they have big differences the way they perform and even bigger differences in the sprain that they can cause to your system. In a small comparison all these three browsers were benchmarked on a 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo fast machine that had 2GB of RAM and Windows Vista Ultimate.
The comparison was made by considering the alike and to make it clearer, terms like “OmniBox” for Chrome and “Awesome Bar” for Firefox were avoided when the address bars of different browsers were called.
We have heard a lot about Chrome’s minimalist appearance, but truly speaking it doesn’t make a lot of difference to the amount of space the browser actually has to take. Chrome doesn’t have one like disable Firefox’s and IE’s status bars. Similarly the header of Chrome is almost half-tab shorter than Firefox and IE. The difference could be more pronounced if Google had opted for something else than ‘the world’s biggest font’ in the address bar.
Truly speaking, this slight space advantage in Chrome vanishes totally when you have to maximize it. The address bar and tabs stay at the top of the screen in Chrome ,while in IE8 and FireFox you get rid of entirely everything.
One thing that has been noticed in Google’s chrome is a simple combination of address bar and search bar. Chrome comes with some handy suggestions instead of using the same box to type URLs and search criteria. IE8 also tries to do the same but it keeps different search box .While in firefox there is the same old way of presenting URLs and visited pages in the address bar and search suggestions in the search bar.
When we compared the other aspects of these three browsers, we found that despite of its all flaws and drawbacks Firefox is the most customizable and expandable web browser among these three.
