An introduction - Internet

Internet has mainly been coined from the words: inter + network. It consists of the global interconnected networks by which one can avail all sorts of facts and information on almost anything from any part of the world. The internet has got its origin from

Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) built for the US military services to enhance network communications. From that time onwards scientists realized that this can have a wide application by the general masses too and this thought has led to great advancement.

Standard communication and networking protocols like the famous TCP/IP protocols (TCP= Transmission Control Protocol and the IP= Internet Protocol) were established. This helped in the transmission of packets of data and for this only we are able to send e-mails, messages, files from one computer to the other. Today by gradual modifications we have reached such a stage where we are able to access internet from our houses by the aid of an ISP (Internet Service Provider).

The internet has got a variety of applications like e-mailing, chatting, search engines, online business, file transfers, and many more. With the pressing of the keys of the keyboard and using the mouse we are able to control the world through internet. Today we need not stand in long queues for submitting telephone and electricity bills, rents and others just because we are able to do it through the internet only. Even we can deposit and transfer money to bank accounts by logging online.

In fact communication has taken a new denotation when we are able to reach thousands of people and take part in a conference without going to that place through means like video conferencing. Today we need not browse through each and every book for getting information’s as we can do it through internet only. Today we also get jobs and even friends through this amazing medium.
