The Popular Blood Pressure Drug Can Raise the Chances of Cancer

This thing is known to almost everyone that the strong doses of drugs are mostly followed by some after effects but we mostly don’t know what effects the drug is bringing.

Recently a review of certain data has shown the negative effects of some drugs that are most common in usage along the whole world; the researchers have told that the usage of drugs for blood pressure and heart diseases is linked to the slight boost in the cancer risks.

Basically the researchers had focused on five different trails that were involving 60,000 patients in which cancer was the pre-specified end point. The medicines which were proved responsible for the increase of cancer includes: telmisartan (Micardis), losartan (Cozaar, Hyzaar), valsartan (Diovan) and candesartan (Atacand) which most of blood pressure patients uses in their daily routine.

Dr. Ilke Sipahi, assistant professor of medicine at Case Western Reserve University was the lead author of the report that was published in the online edition of The Lancet Oncology and according to Sipahi “Experimental studies using cancer cell lines and animal models have implicated the angiotensin system in the proliferation of cells and also tumors.” And further “Evidence from animal studies show that blockage of angiotensin receptors can stimulate tumor growth by promoting new blood vessel formation in tumors.”
