Sleep Apnea is one of the most common problem of most people worldwide and in this problem people snores and faces breathing disturbances while sleeping and a new study has found that these problems can be linked to higher risks of heart failure and attacks especially in the middle aged and old men.
This thing is very amazing that this problem has been seen in the older males only while the women are completely safe of this. It has been seen that people suffering from sleep apnea often faces a pause in their breathing and wake up at once, but then they go back to sleep without taking too much notice of this problem. People though don’t take notice of the sudden awakening but the heart does so and gets affected badly.
Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea is a disorder of sleep and in which breathe is regular but with some pauses. Apnea is the term used for every pause of breathes.
Normally these episodes of apnea happen throughout the sleep and it is diagnosed with EEG or by a sleep study called polysomnogram.
This pause of breathe is considered as a disorder and called sleep apnea when each pause is having a minimum interval of 10 seconds within two breathes.
Apnea having more than five or more pauses per hour is clinically considered as significant one and this apnea is generally classified in to three categories, namely, obstructive, central and complex. Lack of respiratory effort causes the central sleep apnea and blockage in the air way causes the obstructive type and almost a combination both central and obstructive type forms the complex type. This disorder long lasts for years and the sufferer even does not aware of his illness and in many cases it is identified only by others nearer to them. In this long journey of episode the patient becomes addict to day time sleeping with much fatigue and suffers from sleep disturbance.
