A new research has found an anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory vaginal compound to kill the non-human version of HIV in monkeys. It would be a great discovery if it is produced to perform the same functions in humans to prevent the disastrous disease worldwide.
The researchers were surprised to see when a compound called glcerol monolaurate (GML) was applied as a vaginal gel, the transmission of the nonhuman primate version of HIV, known as SIV.They are of the view that if GML as a topical microbicide can be added to prevent HIV, millions of lives could be saved. But they added that it was not the cure of the disease, it required a lot of further trials to be proved safe and effective in humans.
