LONDON – People who eat hastily till feel full, have more chances to be overweight, a problem added by the penetration of fast food, Japanese researchers said.
Eating styles, alone, can contribute to an obesity epidemic fueled by the spread of Western-style, spreading all over the world. The findings, published in the British Medical Journal.
According to the WHO, around 400 million people are obese, among them 20 million are under the age of five. The condition raises the risk of diseases, like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular problems.
For study purpose, Hiroyasu Iso at Osaka University asked 3,000 Japanese volunteers aged 30 – 69 about their eating habit. Half of the men and almost half of the women said they ate until full. About 45 percent men and 36 percent women ate quickly.
A study says that daily use of chamomile tea may prove helpful to avoid the complications of type2 diabetes including nerve, vision and kidney damage.
The researchers form UK and Japan gave a chamomile extract to diabetic rats and they found that the extract seemed to reduce blood sugar levels and hampered the activity of an enzyme that was linked with diabetic complications.
But Charity Diabetes UK warned the patients against acting on the findings until the results of further study. Read the rest of this entry
LONDON – Children with deprived hand control and synchronization having more tendencies to become obese adults, researchers said on Wednesday
The findings strengthen the evidence, linking poorer cognitive function in childhood to type2 diabetes and obesity in adults.
A study of thousands of British children reveals that, most of them were in worst cognitive and physical function at the ages of 7 and 11 years and were expected to become obese in adulthood.
“It’s not a question of people who are already overweight becoming clumsy because the majority of these children weren’t any heavier than their peers,” said researcher Scott Montgomery.
“It was assumed that all the neurological complications related with obesity were result of obesity itself. This suggests that’s not the case.”

The officials of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) voted 14-2 that all newly manufactured diabetes drugs must go through in-depth studies to assure they don’t raise risks of heart attacks.
The recommendations from different diabetes experts, cardiologists and statisticians became lesser than a year, while the FDA was reprimanded for its managing of heart risks connected with an extensively used GlaxoSmithKline pill. Read the rest of this entry
