Stool is formed in the colon as the food moves through the intestines down to through the colon to the rectum concomitantly absorbing water.

The stool thus when it reaches the rectum is solid as most of the water is reabsorbed back into the body’s bloodstream. If too much water is reabsorbed then there are many chances of constipation as the stool becomes too dry and is very hard to pass out.

Too slow movement of the food content through intestines makes the colon to absorb too much water from the feces and they become hard again and become dry resulting in constipation.
