Small Taxes on Soda Doesn’t Stop Obesity: Study Revealed
It has been noticed that the US government had placed some small taxes on Soda and other carbonated drinks.
This reason for such actions was that people might be kept away from obesity especially the young kids who are always found of such drinks but a recent research has showed that small taxes has no impact on children’s obesity rate and may be the some more taxes will help in reaching this goal.
This study has been actually revealed as proposal to raise taxes on carbonated drinks and it was lead by Roland Sturm, a senior economist at the Rand Corp. in Santa Monica, Calif.
The researchers have actually used a survey of 2004 of about 7,300 fifth-grade children, it was noticed that how the height and weight of children raised in the previous two years and their habit of taking soda and other carbonated drinks was also analyzed. After the deep analysis it was found that there was no impact of children’s trend towards the carbonated drinks after the implication of small taxes, may be the children of the families with low income have stopped their usage but their ratio is very small that it can’t make a difference. So overall this research was intended to say that government should increase the taxes on carbonated drinks otherwise the increasing rate of child’s obesity can’t be beaten.
