Researchers from New Zealand have found that almost 80% deaths due to hypertension happen in the developing countries of the world. These results were published in this week issue of The Lancet.
There was a time when it was considered that high blood pressure is usually found only among the rich people of the world but now high blood pressure has become a worldwide problem and affecting rich as well as poor. These are some findings of that research.
The researcher found that in 2001, among people above 30 years of age, there were around 7.6 million untimely deaths, 92 million disabilities that is respectively 13.5% and 6% of the total global deaths.
It doesn’t end here as almost 47% cases of heart disease and 54% of strokes have been also related to hypertension. More than half these cases occurred in those people who had more than 140mm Hg systolic while other cases happened with those who had a lesser degree of hypertension.
In rich countries this ratio of untimely deaths was almost 17.6% and 12.9% in average and lower income countries. Similarly, the ratio of DALYS because of high blood pressure was 9.3% and 5.6% in average and lower income companies.
But almost 80% deaths due to hypertension took place in average and lower income countries of the Eastern Europe and Asia and particularly in the countries like India and China.
In the developed countries of the world there were almost 1.39 million deaths related to high blood presuure.Similarly, 418,000 deaths due to strokes, 668,000 due to heart disease, 109,000 hypertension related death and 197,000 deaths because of many other heart diseases were reported in these countries.
Number of deaths in low and average income countries was around 6.22 due to high blood pressure, 2.5 million due to strokes, and 2.68 million due to cardiovascular diseases.
According to Auckland researchers avoidance and treatment polices are proper but they are limited to only to rich countries of the world at the same time the eating habits of the people are not very encouraging in these countries. But in the poor countries there are not sufficient strategies and medical facilities and most of deaths are due to these lack of facilities and lack of awareness.
