It is hard to know when your baby requires medical help. Baby can’t tell you when something hurts them. Mother knows their baby best. It s very important that you observe your baby’s behavior from time to time. In case you found anything unusual call the doctor at once. Following are the health conditions that might require medical attention:
Vomiting:
Baby spits occasionally and it is quite normal if he spits one or two times. But if baby continues spitting call doctor at once. Baby may vomits due to some infection in the respiratory system, the urinary tract or even due to the infection in the ear.
Diarrhea:
Due to the breast feeding baby has a soft stools. If there is a loose or watery stool for more than 6 times a day, your baby needs medical attention.Dehydration:
Due to excessive vomiting and loose motion baby loses water instantly from their body. Dehydration can be very serious. Try to hydrate baby with small amounts of clear water. The signs of dehydration are urination less than three times a day, dry lips, and soft spot on the head of the infants. If you see any of these symptoms in your baby then immediately rush to the doctor’s office.
Constipation:
If the baby suddenly cries or looks uncomfortable during the bowel movement and passes bloody or jelly like stools, contact doctor. The main reason of baby becoming constipated is due to the scarcity of fluids in their body.
Fever:
Mild fever is very common in babies and normally it is not an issue unless it continues for longer period. Keep on watching rectal temperature from time to time. If you measure the rectal temperature above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit for a 2 months old baby contact your doctor. In the child older than 2 months if the oral temperature of 102 degrees F persists, needs a medical urgency.
Rashes:
Contact doctor if you see the diaper rash becomes red accompanied with a fever.
Breathing Problem:
Baby breaths much faster than adult. The pattern of breathing changes in babies several times in a day. A baby may breathe fast for sometimes then have a brief rest for few seconds and again regain the speed. The signs of breathing problems in babies are:
- If babies breathe continuously 60 breathes each minute or if the breathing stops longer than 10 seconds it can be a serious problem.
- Babies have difficulty breathing if he is pulling the chest in at the ribs below the breast bone or above the collar bone.
- Occasional coughing is common in babies. If the coughing and choking continues for longer period it indicates the breathing problem. Consult the doctor.
- Grunting sound in the baby also indicates that he/she may have difficulty inhaling.
Abdominal Pain:
In infants the most common signs of belly pain is crying, irritability, or a sudden refusal to eat. Sometimes the pain may accompany diseases of the abdominal organs. In case babies have the above mentioned symptoms they need an immediate medical help.
Limping:
Child may start limping if they have pain in another leg, knee or joints. If the limping persists for a longer period or a child is unable to bear weight, consult doctor.
Head Injury:
Head injuries are very common to children. Child who has a recent head injury should be monitored after four hours of the injury. Many children will feel headache and drowsiness and sometimes vomiting. Let your child to sleep but awake them after every half an hour to see whether they have consciousness. If your child looses consciousness or vomit repeatedly, rush to doctor.
