Fruits & Veggies Trigger More Happiness among the Moms
A new survey has been designed around studying how moms feel about including fruits and vegetables in their daily diet. This survey conducted between January 18 and January 22, 2008 in collaboration between ‘Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH)’ and the ‘Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’ in cooperation with other partners. They choose a sample of women between the ages of 24 and 41, all of whom had at least 1 child under18 living in their household out of which 1,000 women responded to this online survey.
Around 70% of the women expressed happiness and satisfaction after eating healthy foods like fruits or vegetables. Extra sweetened foods or food laced with extra saltiness and spices are likely to trigger negative emotions like sadness or stress. They felt the same after consuming salty snack foods and heavy foods like cheeseburgers and also found themselves ridden with a feeling of guilt after eating sweets.
The researchers when compared the results of the different responses of moms, found that majority of the proportion of the women were happier and felt good about their own selves after consuming generous portion of vegetables and fruits.
The same experience of feeling good and happy is their when they try to induce the same kind of habits among their kids. This also gives a feeling of being a good mother when they feed their children with fruits and vegetables. However here of course there are certain hindrances which obstacle their way to inculcate such dietary trends among theist kids like fussiness, varying preferences among the family members, lower shelf life of fresh foods and lack of fresh fruits and vegetable being served in restaurants.
Since the previous studies and surveys have clearly indicated that the consumption of fruits and vegetable is much lesser than the recommended amount suggested by the dietician all over the world, PBH and the ‘Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’ decided to design certain helpful, handy an practical easy to use method to help moms add more of fresh fruits and vegetables in the daily diet, thus imbibing healthier habits among the children.
The “Get Smart Tips” make it easier and more convenient for the moms to introduce more of vegetables and fruits in the daily diet of their children. Dr Elizabeth Pivonka, President and CEO says that it is easier for the moms to do this by including canned, frozen, and dried or 100% juice, in addition to fresh vegetables and fruits. This also challenges the common belief among the moms that only the fresh vegetables and fruits can be counted as a source of healthy nutrition. Moms can find the “Get Smart Tips” on the Web site (http://www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org ) where a wide range of topics have been covered to encourage fruit and vegetable consumption among consumers.
‘Produce for Better Health Foundation(PBH)’ is a nonprofit organization which works towards promotion of consuming more of fruits and vegetables .They also intend to promote same level by promoting fruits and vegetables directly to consumers.
