Few Weeks Early Delivery of a Baby May Bring Respiratory Risks
The delivery of baby if occurs few weeks before the specified time then it brings many complications into the life of baby, a recent study has found that infants who are born even few weeks early are at risks of developing breathing problems as compared to the babies who have been delivered on proper time.
The lead researcher Dr. Judith U. Hibbard, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, while discussing about the study said that “Our study verifies that late preterm birth neonates delivered from 34 to 37 weeks have much higher risks for respiratory complications than infants delivered from 38 to 40 weeks gestation”.
The actual report of this study has got published in July 28 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. For the accomplishment of this study, the researchers have looked at the data almost 234,000 deliveries that were performed between 2002 and 2008.
From the study it was observed that 19,000 births were the late preterm births and among them 7,055 babies were to place in the neonatal intensive care units. The deep analysis of those babies showed that 2,032 babies suffered from the respiratory problems.
While giving the conclusion of this research the researchers stated that “even at 37 weeks, the odds of respiratory distress syndrome were still threefold greater than that of a 39- or 40-week birth. Similar patterns were seen for transient tachypnea of the newborn, pneumonia, standard or high-frequency ventilator requirements, and respiratory failure”.
In this study the researchers have also said that the preterm births can be prevented in some cases and doctors should give their best to prevent such births as this leaves a great impact on the life of baby.
