Parenthood is a life-changing event everyone would agree; nevertheless every parent would also agree that it is a challenge in itself to bring up a child. There are no thumb rules of bringing a child, because each child is different in terms of attention span, energy levels, assertiveness, etc. So a parent has to try means that suits their child and not adopt some thing just because next-door Jack used them.
Teaching a child personal grooming is very important and essential by every parent, especially keeping dental and bodily hygiene. Dental hygiene is more important because if it’s neglected it poses serious problems including loss of teeth, development of crooked teeth, speech and hearing impairment and associated image problems. These days, there is increasing concern with more and more kids experiencing dental problems. Such problems have been observed even at the age of two in many kids. Cavities at that age point to one valid factor, poor brushing and little time spent on brushing.
There are other factors that contribute to this situation and they include an increase in the consumption of sugary stuff including juices and soda pop. Usage of non-fluoridated water as well has largely contributed to the bloating concern not just in United States but also across the world.
Therefore dental care is an important step that begins at early childhood levels, probably as soon as the child begins teething the first two teeth and parents supervision and guidance is very essential until the child is grown up to care of his/her teeth independently, say until 6 years. Show him that he/she needs to brush up and down and circular fashion over the teeth. Show him that he needs to brush gently on the gums as well.
If the child is fussy to use the mint-flavored toothpaste, let him use another one that he likes. There are hoards of choices on the grocers’ shelves and he can pick his own. Similarly instead of bragging he let him come with a pleasant mood to brush his teeth. As a parent you need to take all necessary steps for this such as buying him a brush that has cartoon faces he likes.
Additionally, as parent you need to replace yours as well as your child’s toothbrush once in 3 months unfailingly. Also replace the brush after your child suffered a strep throat or similar infection. This is to be done to avoid re-infection via toothbrush.
Finally, do not teach or preach a kid. It seldom works. Instead as a parent you can educate them better by being an example yourself. Tell them in an interesting way to make them follow a thing never compel them.
