SmokersThe results of a new study show that changes in the design of cigarette with the passage of time can raise the risk for certain types of lung cancer particularly in the US smokers.

Dr. David Burns, the lead author of the study, says in a tobacco research meeting that nearly 51% cases of lung cancer are because of these changes.

It’s not happening for the first time that researchers have presented such results as many other previous studies have shown similar sort of results regarding different types of cigarettes that also include low-tar cigarettes. The interesting finding was that US as well as Australia both have switched to well-known milder cigarettes, but the risk of adenocarcinoma, a lung tumor was found higher in the US smokers than the Australian.

Burns explains this difference that the cigarettes available in Australia have lower nitrosamines levels than the cigarettes available in the US.

However, Burns accepts this fact that this issue definitely requires some more research, as it’s a circumstantial evidence.

The study has been presented at a meeting of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco and it gave some considerable thoughts to smoking behaviors of different age group people during the past forty years.

They also noted the amount of cigarettes they daily smoked, their starting and quitting time for smoking and the variation between their cancer risk.
