“The Journal of Neurology” has recently published a new study which brought up an interesting link between increase in the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia decades later, if you are in your 40s and have belly fat. Dr. Randolph, author of “From Belly Fat to Belly Flat” also commented about this new finding and said that ‘Estrogen Dominance’ can be taken as that missing link which seems to be playing important role.
C.W. Randolph, co-author of the newly released best selling book “From Belly Fat to Belly Flat” says that he is not surprised by the results of this study. He further adds that the traditional medical community took long to establish the link and the most unfortunate thing is still many doctors and patients are unable to understand the underlying causes of neurological function, being impaired due to weight gain and storage of fat in the belly area.
Dr. Randolph talks about estrogen dominance, which is a condition that results from the alteration in hormone production that occurs naturally with age. Women start showing this shit or alteration in hormones in their 30’s and with men it starts in their 40’s.
Dr. Randolph puts light on the estrogen, progesterone and testosterone, three sex hormones produced by the ovaries and testes, which remain in equilibrium or maintains an optimal ration in a healthy person in his 20s however with age, and there is a downfall in the production of these hormones. Progesterone is the first hormone to drop off in production, which happens 120 times more rapidly in women than estrogen production. This creates an imbalance in the hormones in the body and soon leads to a condition called ‘estrogen dominance’ as termed in medicine.
Genie James, co-author of From Belly Fat to Belly Flat adds that estrogen dominance in body develops an inclination to store fat around the middle. As a result of over production of estrogen, an overweight person funds it impossible to lose weight around the middle. This leads to many other health risks.
Due to dominance of estrogen, it leads to retention of water in the body which is medically termed as cerebral edema, the first symptom of which is foggy thinking. This imbalance of hormones has also been linked with development of other risks like breast cancer, uterine cancer, prostate cancer, heart attack and stroke.
However Randolph insists that there is no need to lose hope as this estrogen dominance can be controlled by replacing progesterone using bio-identical ways and healthy brain cells can be maintained for a long time. Moreover there are some belly blaster foods which can help in eliminating the extra estrogen naturally through the bowel like cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, kale; citrus fruits like oranges or grapefruits, insoluble fibers contained in whole grains, oats, zucchini or tomatoes and lignans (flax seed, flax seed oil or sesame seeds).
Ms. James, another co-author talked about the simple nutritional program and special recipes being included in the book “From Belly Fat to Belly Flat” to help such patients.
