Among 401 NCAA athletes in the major division-I university, it has been found out that one third athletes mix alcohol and other caffeine containing energy drinks in their diets. These results were actually shown by a study that was presented at American college of sports medicine’s 57th annual meeting.

In the study the athletes were surveyed of their alcohol and high energy caffeine drink’s consumption and the results showed that about 78.6 percent athletes consumed such drinks in their daily routine. This is really an alarming thing about the consumption of these drinks can be a great risk for their health in future.

Conrad Woolsey, PHD was leading this study and he compared the health consequences which occurred when the athletes combine the alcohol and the energy drinks together which was also a very common trend among the athletes. According to Woolsey “[Some drinks] contain three to four times the amount of caffeine as others, and consumers need to know that these drinks also contain powerful herbal stimulants such as yohimbine and evodamine, which are far more dangerous than caffeine” and further “In essence, they do not really give a person new energy, but instead cause the release of stored chemicals in our bodies that give us energy”.

Thus this emerging trend of consuming such drinks should have to be stopped as the many health consequences can occur in future.
